Advantages Of Managing Revit Revisions With Ideate BIMLink
Dealing with revision information in models created in Autodesk® Revit® software can create challenges. Here is a major limitation in Revit that makes managing revisions difficult:
Revit
only displays the current revision in a sheet list for both revisions per
project and revisions per sheet; there is no built-in solution to schedule
every revision on each sheet. This is a problem when a client requests a sheet
schedule that lists each sheet and each revision on a sheet, so they can stay
aware of all the changes that happen throughout the project.
Yes,
there are challenges with Revit.
Manage revisions
with Ideate BIMLink to make the challenges disappear. Use it to batch-edit most
revision-related properties, Revit sheet names, and Revit sheet numbers in
Microsoft Excel. And, if you also use Ideate Sticky, you can then place the Excel
spreadsheet containing the revision data onto a Revit sheet, so it is easily available
for all to view.

Sheet-Based
Revisions
Use
Ideate BIMLink to access the Revisions on Sheet properties and make revision
management painless.
To access these properties within Ideate BIMLink, either:
- Use the sample link file
called "Revision_on_Sheet"
OR
- Create a New Link and
use the Sheet category
Start by looking through
the list of available properties for those that start with “Seq," which
reflects the sequence of revisions defined within the current project.
Select the Revisions to
be included within the Link Definition. Each "Seq" property will
export as a TRUE or FALSE value in Excel.
Then
edit the values of the properties in Excel and used Ideate BIMLink to import
the updated data back into the Revit project. The Revision Schedules will
update automatically if they are part of your Title Block family.
If you
are an Ideate Software customer that subscribes to Ideate BIMLink, you can
request an Excel macro template and dataset that supports the automation of a
Document Issuance Record.
With the
template and dataset, you will get an Excel file organized as a matrix with
Sheets as Rows with Revision Dates and Per Sheet Numbering as Columns, like
this:

Linking
the Excel Matrix to the Revit Project with Ideate Sticky
As
mentioned above, Ideate BIMLink can be used to export revision data from a
Revit project to Excel, where it can be reorganized in a matrix format. Once
you have the formatted matrix, you can link it to your Revit project via Ideate
Sticky to be displayed on a Sheet.
